Rules of the Road, by Joan Bauer

Talk about a great book!! This one is the book you’re supposed to read before you read Best Foot Forward. (I figured out how to put pictures on, by the way) IT’s a story about this teen who needed a job so she got hired in a shoe store. IT also has some stuff about her life as the daughter of a drunk driver and night emergency room worker, and sister of a  girl who wants to be a model.

A good book…… I give it a 9.754100000000628 (I am having fun with numbers!)

Why we Love the Dogs We do, by Stanley Coren

http://images.barnesandnoble.com/images/1360000/1364535.gif

This is a really cool book!! Coren’s other books are pretty boring in my opinion, but this book is great!

Why we Love the Dogs We do is good for people who want to get a dog that does not drive them crazy. Stanley Coren groups the dogs by their personalities, instead of their history, the way the AkC does. This makes it easier to choose your dog. (My best dog would be a Bulldog or a Weimeraner :) Some people may be surprised at what dogs they would enjoy-I know I was!

The book also includes short stories about famous people (such as presidents and movie stars) and their dogs.

I give it a 10

AKC’s The Complete Dog Book For Kids, by the AKC organization

This is a great book for younger purebred dog fanatics (like me!) It helps with your choice on what type of dog you want, and it has info on all the dog breeds that I know of (except the Jack Russel terrier). It also has info on dog training, and certifying your dog as a good citizen.  It’s a good book for  people who are looking  for the perfect dog, and for dog fanatics like myself.

I give it an 11!!!!

Many Waters, by Madeline L’Engle

This book, like A Wrinkle in Time, is really…..strange. It gives you a whole new idea of how life was prehistorically.

In this one, two twin brothers mess with their dad’s computer and find themselves in biblical times. Not just any biblical time, but just before the flood! They get behind the scenes with Noah’s family, his friends, and the evil people who didn’t come on the Ark. He saw just how evil those people were, and just how good the ones who went on the Ark were.

It’s a great book. I give it a 9.5!!!

Fiction vs. Nonfiction

First off I will say that I am a fan of fiction, unless the book is info about dogs. (I am obsessed with dogs)  Stories are cool because anything could happen. Nonfiction is, to me, boring. My dad is into nonfiction. He likes learning about things, or something. One time, by brother was taking some course in school. He said to Dad, ‘You would like this sociology book,’ ‘Why?’ asks Dad. He replies ‘Because it’s boring.’

This whole conversation makes sense to me. BUT nonfiction is good for lots of things. For example, you might want to become a dog breeder. You know NOTHING about dogs or genetics. This is where  Dog Breeding for Dummies comes in. NONFICTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My point is, read nonfiction either if you are simply interested in something or if you need to learn about something.

Marley & Me, by John Grogan

John Grogan, like lots of other people, remembers his childhood ‘perfect dog’. He asumed that all dogs were like this–until he got Marley.

Marley is a Labrador, and like many other Labradors, is off his rocker. When he went to choose a puppy, they met his mom. Marley’s mom, like even more Labs, is calm and friendly and obedient. They chose their dog before they met the dad. They met Marley’s dad on the way home. He was absolutely crazy!!!

The book tells about John Grogan’s life with the crazy yellow Lab.

I give it an 11.

A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeleine L’Engle

I’m not really sure if I like this book or not, but wether you like it or not, you HAVE to read just ONE MORE PAGE… 5 more minutes Mom! I’m almost done with this chapter…..

This is a book for people who like to daydream, people who like to believe in things that aren’t true. It’s pretty mindblowing.

I give it a 5.9

A Search for Delicious, by Natalie Babbit

This book is fun to read- I read it in one day!

In this book, the Prime minister is writing a dictionary, and when he comes to the word ‘delicious’ no one agrees on what food would describe the word. In the end, it comes to war. The people are supposed to vote on which food is best, but people think that some will go out of business and others will have to make all the food in the kingdom. In the end, some villian is stopping the water supply, and bribing people to vote nuts.

It is really imaginary, and fun. It gets an 8.2

CrissCross, by Lynne Rae Perkins

This book is somewhat confusing. It is a book that makes you think. The book is not a sappy love story, but it’s about two people who are destined to love eachother. This book is really different from most books, because it is enigmatic and doesn’t explain a lot of things. But also, it’s reallistic. Lynne Rae Perkins wasn’t trying to write a good book, she was trying to write a book that people understood.

This book gets an 8.4
